It is safe to say that no product can be popular forever in market. A famous brand, however, as an intangible asset, will never be old-fashioned. Owning a name brand, others’ products may become yours; otherwise your products will belong to others forever.

China, for example, can produce Boeing parts, but these parts have to be used with the Boeing trade mark. Similarly, the Chinese automobile industry, so far, has not reached its own developing capacity, and has to use foreign brands such as Audi, Jetta and Santana, for the automobiles they make. This situation poses an immediate threat to Chinese products which may not be able to compete in the international market. The way for the country will either be able to open up completely to foreign products or save the domestic market only for homemade commodities. The disturbing phenomenon is that there are a lot of famous domestic brands in the Chinese market, but few have found their way into the international market.

Fortunately, more and more Chinese enterprises have begun to understand the philosophy that “he who has a name brand wins the competition” and carries out the famous brand strategy. I will bet that no Chinese are willing to see that all 1.3 billion people drink foreign water, take foreign medicine and drive foreign cars. The idea of implementing famous brand strategy, therefore, plays an important role in the country’s material and spiritual civilization.

There are always some debates on the importance of a name. Some people say the name is vital to a person because it can decide whether a person will be successful or not in the future. Furthermore, a positive name can also promote a person's hardworking at study.

Whereas, some other people hold the opposite opinion that names do not matter. There are strings of reasons. To start with, whether the person is successful or not is up to his own diligence; What's more, they are just names which can be easily changed.

As far as I am concerned, names can not decide any things.

Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay entitled On the Importance of a Name. You should write at least 150 words following the outline given below.
3. 我认为

Recently, it is universally acknowledged that due attention has to be paid to the importance of name. To begin with, a large number of people assert that one's name can exert profound influence on the success of a person or institution. In addition, some even maintain that the mental health and physical fitness of a person will be influenced or even determined by his or her name。

On the contrary, it is the view of a great many people that one's name is of little significance. I can think of no better illustration than the following ones. “Qiu”, which means “hill”, is the name of Confucius, the greatest thinker, philosopher and educator throughtout history. Likewise, another case in point is Lao Zi, the founder of philosophical and religious Taoism, whose name is “er”, which means “the ear”. These examples effectively clarify that one's future is only determined by his striving spirit, talent or intelligence rather than some mysterious and superstitious factors such as certain names or lucky numbers。

As for me, significance should be attached to intelligence, persistence and diligence instead of one's name. Given all the above arguments, it is high time that we put an end to this undesirable phenomenon。
